The Albula valley is Grisons’ mountain-biking diamond in the rough. One of these highlights is doing a tour of the valley that contains more singletrails than almost any tour we know.
The tour starts in Tiefencastel, where you follow the officially signposted mountain bike route (242 Albula Tour) along the Albula river to Filisur. Below Filisur station, stay on the signposted route to Schönboden, where you’ll switch over to the Scalettapass/Keschhütte route (339). This fine singletrail will take you a kind of fairy-tale forest to the Wiesen Station. At the rail crossing, the route branches off sharply to the right, under the viaduct, and then winds its way as a top-notch trail down to the Landwasser river. Stay on the right bank until you come to a bridge where you’ll see a gravel road on the opposite side. Follow that road past the world-famous Landwasser viaduct. Follow the service roads and singletrails to the main highway below Alvaneu, later turning off for Lenzerheide. Slightly above is the start of a first-class singletrail, which runs parallel to the main road to Brienz. Ride through Vazerol to Alvaschein, switching to the other side of the valley at the historic Solis bridge and then climbing up towards Mutten. The track then takes you to Stierva and finally the village of Mon. This is where the fantastic final descent to Tiefencastel starts.
