Description

High above the Landquart Chlus to Prättigau is the Fadärastein. The spectacular pass is popular with mountain bikers, especially the first-class downhill to Malans, which is one of the best singletrails around.

The actual tour starts at Seewis station, which is easily accessible from Landquart via the old main road. On the mountain road, climb 400 metres until you reach the village of Seewis. You might wonder why the town has hardly any old buildings and the streets are at right angles. As it turns out, the entire village of Seewis burned to the ground in 1863 and, when they rebuilt, they decided to be more practical in the street layout. The tour continues from Seewis on a paved mountain road across the mountain meadows, past the Fadära restaurant and finally to Fadärastein. The view here is phenomenal and you can see almost the entire Rhine valley near Chur directly below. This is where the descent begins, first on a singletrail that’s quite technical, but which eventually becomes smoother, faster, and eventually even wider. If you like things more technical, take the first right serpentine on the gravel road onto the singletrail to Malans; otherwise, take the gravel road as you climb the last few metres until you reach the railway. From both Malans and the rail line, you can follow the marked bike trail back to Landquart.
