Schanfigg, located between Chur and Arosa, is one of the sunniest regions in Graubünden. The southern slopes offer plenty of singletrail fun, if the northern slopes already prove to be too cold. One of these tours is the classic starting at Skihaus Hochwang and leading to Arflinafurgga.
The tour can start in Litzirüti somewhat below Arosa. You then follow the sign-posted mountainbike route 630 (Hochwang Peisteralp). This leads to a gravel road stretching down to Molinis, where it then climbs into a sunlit ascent. This leads along a narrow road, increasing in altitude by 900 metres, terminating at the Skihaus Hochwang. The way turns onto a cart path leading steeply up to a hill, where you will leave the sign-posted route for some time and fight your way up to Faninpass. Here, the descent into Prättigau would be possible, but in our case we follow the ridge to Arflinafurgga and further on, below the Mattjisch Horn. A long descent is queued up for us that initially leads entertainingly through the wide and open pasture lands, then becomes somewhat steeper, and finally opens onto the official route and from there onto the settlement of Pirigen. Instead of the wide alpine road, from here you take the shortcut marked as a hiking trail and in so doing get onto singletrails up to Langwies. You reach the official route again at the train station, which you follow downwards to Plessur and then curve onto a gravel road back toward Litzirüti.
