The Motta Palousa is an inconspicuous look-out point in the Albula valley. The sporty climb is rewarded by a phenomenal panoramic view and a fun-filled single trail to Savognin. The absolute highlight of the tour, however, is the final descent from Mon to Tiefencastel.
From Tiefencastel, first follow the sign-posted mountain bike trail for a while along the Albula upriver. At the height of Surava, you turn right and navigate onto the long ascent to Motta Palousa. The gravel road winds up the steep forest edge and is again steeper in places on the way toward Aclas. At Alp Ozur, the route transitions into a single track, and you will have to push your bike for the last 240 metres of altitude at the crossover by Motta Palousa. It is worthwhile now to push ahead to the summit. The view from here on the Albula, the Lenzerheide region and the Oberhalbstein in the back is simply fantastic. The descent then leads initially through the mountain trail to Spinatscha, where the world-class trail then leads down to the parking lot. Go a short distance down the road here, and then soon turn right onto the next trail. This leads to a little above Savognin. Now, do not head down into the town, but instead continue along the forest edge, past the meadow above Cunter. Crossing the main road, the trail finally ends at the ruins of Ziegelhetta on the shores of the Gelgia. Now there is again a rise in the cards for us. This leads via Salouf to Del, where, a little above the hamlet near the forest, the peak descent to Tiefencastel begins. The delightful trail leads down to Mont and thence on a direct road to Tiefencastel.
