Description

The mountainbikers in Chur region appreciate the route to Ringelspitz hut as a hidden gem, less because of the long ascent, but rather due to the descent through the wonderful Lawoitobel, an extraordinarily beautiful valley, although quite a challenging ride in the upper section.

From Bad Ragaz, take the road up to Pfäfers and follow it through the Tamina valley, past Vättis until you finally reach the Kunkels Pass. This is where the tougher part of the ascent starts. Ride up to Grossalp on the gravel road and then take the singletrail to the right away from the mountain. This trails was specially created for mountainbikers and is slightly less steep than the hiking trail that runs directly to Ringelspitz hut. Very strong mountainbikers can manage to ride all the way up, but most have to push their bikes a few metres of the way. The Ringelspitz hut is the culmination of the tour. After taking a well-deserved break, we head back down to Lawoitobel. The path is initially quite tricky, but then becomes increasingly flowy until it finally transitions into a really fun singletrail in the forest. After 800 metres downhill, you’ll reach a gravel road. Given there’s no other choice, just keep on heading downhill for another 500 metres. Just above Tamins, you’ll have to climb up a bit until you reach Benis Böden. This is where the fun, final stretch begins on a singletrail that will take you to the banks of the Rhine and then to Rossboden bei Chur. The riverside path is one of Chur’s classic singletrails and forms the wonderful conclusion of this tour to Ringelspitz hut. Take the train back to Bad Ragaz or, if you’ve still got it in you, ride along the Rhine via Landquart.
