The Lago Saoseo in the Val di Camp valley, in Poschiavo, is numbered among the most beautiful mountain lakes in Switzerland and is the objective of this estimable singletrail tour through the Puschlav.
In Poschiavo, you follow the sign-posted mountainbike route 432 (Val di Camp) up the valley; you will pass San Carlo, and in Pedemonte the steep ascent steers along the narrow valley floor up to Sfazù. This small town is the gateway into the Val di Camp, and you pedal along the little gravel road (continue along the 432nd route) up to Rifugio Saoseo and continue on past Camp until Lagh da Viola. If Lago Saoseo is the most beautiful lake in Switzerland, then the Lagh da Viola is the second best. It is charmingly set into a high alpine region of the Alps and is surrounded by larches and firs. For the descent, follow a segment of the ascent route, which then branches off left to Lago Saoseo. The road here is very rough and again has to be pushed through. The detour to Lago Saoseo should really be viewed as mandatory for travellers: it is not without reason that the lake is known for its beauty. From the lake onwards, the trail continues downhill, and you remain on the singletrail on the right side of the valley. You will pass Terzana, and, after Suracqua, continue a few metres down a forest road until the super trail underneath and on the left hand side leads to Poschiavo. This way is initially very flowing, but after crossing the pass road it gets a little bumpier. The descent ends at Angeli Custodi, and back towards Poschiavo you can get from here to the ascent route.
