The Passo Gallo is counted among the most famous and beautiful single track descents of Graubünden. If one combines this with the ride over the Passo da Val Viola into Puschlav, this stretch becomes a unique, but strenuous super tour.
The tour begins on the Ofen Pass, which can be reached from Zernez or from the Münstertal with the postal bus. Right next to the top of the pass, you head onto the first single trail down to Alp Buffalora and then into the steep gravel ascent to Jufplaun. The fun really begins going down to Lago di Livigno. The trail leads past the Alpe del Gallo is one of the most entertaining trails far and wide. Finally, it turns into a wonderful mountain path leading steeply over the lake shore and ends up crossing a lake from pine trees to the Passo di Fraéle. You pedal out along the lake to the dam at Cancano Lakes, passing through a small tunnel and then rolling along two curves on the road down towards Valdidentro. Now the long and flat gravel way begins high above the Valdidentro to Arnoga. The hotel on the road between Livigno and Bormio is the starting point for the ascent through the Val Viola up to the Pass da Val Viola. The climb is completely doable, if also steep at the end. From the pass, a trail specially made for mountain bikers leads down to the idyllic Lagh da Viola. You continue on the trails to Rifugio Saoseo and always along the left side of the valley floor to Suracqua. After a few metres on the forest road, turn off to the left hand side of the super trail down to Poschiavo. This is initially very accessible, then gets a little bit bumpy towards the end and terminates at Angeli Custodi. After Poschiavo it is not much farther; the route now leads on side roads to the picturesque town centre.
